Tags and tagging in blog

Finally that too is done, well at least for the blog, see no point in tagging static information pages, those are few, will remain few and are easy to find. I didn't build or incorporate tagging and taxonomy into this site from the beginning, simply because a blog wasn't part of the original plan. It wasn't until later I decided to enable the blog, later...

Choice of fonts or typefaces - what do you fancy?

Todays websites are becoming more and more graphical, with less and less text. Or makes for more easy reading than before. One reason being that it's possible from a design perspective, screens have much higher resolution which makes graphics look good, another that if you put too much text up, or the paragraph length and density is too heavy, there's a real chance skimming is...

When facebook for companies comes....

....... or when Facebook launches a version of Facebook for companies, will that change things a whole lot? Will it become a success story equal to the original facebook concept? Which was launched at a time when there only was one competitor, Myspace , now more a shadow of its original social "self". Well, the rumors of such a creation have been out and about...

Backups & updates - yes all the time

Guess I am not the only one out here who, at one time or another, have had experiences with updates that messed things up? Changes applied that (later) lead to unforeseen, if not say unwanted SNAFU's, with the subsequent effect that the only thing to bring back sanity and restore peace is.... a backup? Sometimes even the most innocent looking update can lead to unpleasant...

Languages and content; decided to keep it simple

I decided to drop native language or language selector, simply because I already have an English blog, information blocks used were already in English, and slides functions in my template currently only is limited to 3. So I saw no point in expanding to two parallel navigational structures. It would just be more to maintain. Norwegian visitors won't have any issues reading the content anyway...

Restructuring the website - language control

For some time the language aspect of this website have been somewhat of a hybrid, Norwegian and English hand in hand. Not the most tidy presentation I'll openly admit, but as indicated earlier there was this about priorities. Sometime during or after this summer a language solution hopefully will be in place. Not decided exactly what kind, and there are some choices. What is fairly...

Web presence, why you should build & improve it

I am sure you have done it, one or many times, Googled yourself, searched your name. In most cases searches will return pages that has no connection to you, don't contain any information whatsoever or at least nothing you consider representative. If you're a member of Social services like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter etc. these will normally either rank on top or very high up on the result lists.

If you build it they will come (?)...

This title has erroneously been associated with the film Field of Dreams (1989) In which, while walking in his cornfield, novice farmer Ray Kinsella hears a voice that whispers, " If you build it, he will come ". Ray interprets this as an instruction to build a baseball diamond in his fields. After he does, Shoeless Joe Jackson and other dead baseball players emerge from the cornfields to play ball. Good film by the way......

So, what CMS or Web Solution should you choose?

A highly relevant question. Well at least if you're out there looking for a web solution for your company, enterprise or ... just for fun. There are many great solutions available, from general public license or free, to the rather expensive. By the way, CMS means Content Mangement System , and this blog will be about some free/open source based ones. However and this is...
